Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare for my appointment?
WE CANNOT PERFORM ANY PMU SERVICES IF YOU:
Are Pregnant or Nursing.
Are currently undergoing chemotherapy and/or full radiation treatments. (Note however that prophylactic chemotherapy is generally safe for proceeding.)
Have skin inflamation due to active dermatologic disorders like rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis.
Have skin inflamation due to active sunburn.
Have had previous permanent makeup by other artists that we may deem a major corrective procedure. Before we will agree to schedule or perform corrective PMU services or edit the work of other artists, quality photos must be submitted and an in-person consultation may also be required.
ADDITIONAL WAITING PERIODS ARE REQUIRED IF YOU:
Are less than 6 months post operation. Must be cleared by your surgeon after reconstruction (Areola Tattoo).
Scar must be 18 months old & lighter than the surrounding skin in order to be camouflaged. (Scar Camouflage).
Does it hurt?
There is zero to minimal discomfort during our PMU and Medical Art Services. This is due to proper technique and tools used for the skin.
What is 3D Areola Tattooing?
3D Ultra Realistic Areola Micropigmentation creates the illusion of a 3-Dimensional areola and nipple on completely flat skin, for cases in which the nipple has been lost due to Myectomy, breast augmentation surgery, or another traumatic event for example. This can eliminate the need for additional surgery like an areola graft. The areola restorative art gives an ultra realistic look by reconstruction of details like Montgomery glands, wrinkles, and texture. Please be clear that it does not create physical dimension, only the illusion of it.
Will insurance cover my Medical Art appointment?
Insurance can and SHOULD cover your Medical Art Appointment.
We will provide you an insurance code and invoice that you can supply to your insurance and file for reimbursement.
When can I get my 3D Areola Tattoo after surgery?
It is always best to speak with your doctor, but generally speaking Medical Art Services can be performed 6 months after the last surgery.
Scars must wait 18 months to be treated.
What will I experience after my appointment?
What is the difference between 2D & 3D Areola Tattooing?
Ultra Realistic 2D Areola Micropigmentation is our service for patients who have undergone breast surgery and have a nipple grafted or have some dimension in their current nipple but would like some additional color and/or texture. Details can even be restored, including the Montgomery glands. Myectomy, breast augmentation surgery, and other traumatic events are examples of how color, or part of the nipple, might have been lost. A 3D Areola Tattoo is created on a completely flat surface.
How do I prepare for my Medical Art appointment?
How long does it last?
Typically retouches are needed every 3-7 years.
What is the pricing for Medical Art?
It is best to schedule a consult with our experts to determine the price of your service. Services do vary by the technique and PMU Artist chosen.
We do have discounted student model spots available for our PMU Advanced Medical Art Training Program.
We also have our Revive + Thrive Event Annually to help provide Medical Art Services for those in need.

Book Your Appointment
After receiving medical clearance from your surgeon and a minimum of 6 months after your last surgery, it is time to book your 2D or 3D Areola Tattoo appointment. Please be aware pricing varies based on the artist and the type of service that is best suited for your. Please be aware there is typically a wait time of one to two months.
